History of KTC

Knox Theatre Company started in 1980 and continues today. We hold several productions per year and occasional pantomimes. Weekly drama workshops are held during school terms for Ages 15 and over.

In 1994 Knox Theatre Company was approached by Mick Van Der Vries from Melbourne Parks and Water, to write and perform a pantomime to promote Chesterfield Farm. Many workshop students were included in a cast and crew of over 40 people to produce a very successful pantomime.

St Stephens was our home for workshops and rehearsals and occasional productions for 15 years. In November 1999 we were asked to vacate the premises at St Stephen's by the end of the year as they required the space . Unfortunately, this did not leave any time to find a home and move all of our belongings that had been collected for the 15 years. With the help of the Shire of Yarra Ranges, we chose the CWA hall at Kalorama as our home where we could perform, rehearse and hold workshops.

Apart from the travel, the place was cold in winter, hot in summer and seating was not comfortable - we lost a lot of our regular patrons over the 4 years. We therefore had to once again look for a home. This time Knox Council helped us out with our present home in Rowville.

At the end of 2003, Knox City Council came to the rescue and provided a building for Knox Theatre Company to run workshops and prepare for productions. This building is the old CFA premises at LeJohn St in Rowville. Productions have been held at Maroondah Secondary College in Croydon.

2006 saw new members joining the very successful Drama Workshops and two excellent productions – The Time of Your Life and Jake’s Women. Both productions starred both Workshop participants and others who auditioned successfully.

2007 is just beginning and promises to be another great year. Please keep an eye on this website for updated information and sign up to our email list to receive newsletter updates and audition notices by email.
